Five stars when read with the PDF updates file Well written and super easy to follow with many great illustrations and simple explanations of some pretty complex topics. Some Logic's areas could probably have books all to themselves so if your expecting a lot of detail on EXS programming or what every plug-in does this one isn't for you.
That said a definite must read for anyone starting out, or who's just dabbled on the surface with Logic. David also runs the logicprohelp website and does answer many of the questions on the forum. I had a previous version of this book for a previous version of Logic, and found it very helpful.
I thought that with the many changes in Logic Pro X, this would help me get up to speed with it. It's well written, well proof-read not something you can count on in these days of electronic publishing , well laid out, easy to understand and well ordered for a progression of learning.
I got a kick out of the usual cardboard pouch for a CD or DVD in the back of the book, only this time it conceals a code for a digital download. The use of color screen shots is well done: nothing seems daunting and in fact the color tends to draw the eye and draw one in.
A very good training book on Logic X with all the new features and some powerful tips for everyone. I would recommend it to those who wish to do a good leap to mastering Logic. However a fair knowledge base of some topics would be helpful. Have present that this is not a manual, it's a training tutorial and it's not a subtitute for the former. Getting trained through the lessons although I've been working professionally with Logic for more than seven years gave me more insight into the powerful features of the application and the great number of resources to work with MIDI and audio as well as using the scoring capabilities this is a chapter worth enhancing but there are dedicated manual on the subject far more deep.
What it lacks is a chapter on working with films, audio post and composing music for films and commercial. Apple actually provides lots of good documentation with the Logic products, but I learned whole new realms of information when I encountered this book. The documentation from Apple works the way software manuals do "The next menu is the File menu. Commands on the File menu are, as follows It sensibly groups together commands, tools, and functions that the user would need to complete some specific task that was common in music -- like recording an overdub, or mixing a song.
The author is clearly quite knowledgeable about Logic, and music and musicians. This gave me a whole new insight on a program I've actually used for several years. YMMV, of course, but I have recommended it to several people, wholeheartedly, and now in this review!
One person found this helpful. Dave Nahmani has a very readable style and is comprehensive in his detail of Logic Pro X. One thing to note: I also have his Logic Pro 9 version of this book, and there are a few things in that book that are not in this one even though they're relevant e.
David Nahmani has written a great tutorial style book for Logic Pro X. I have limited experience with digital recording and that was all with Sonar. I switched to the Mac and Logic Pro and this book was exactly what I needed to get started. I really don't know how I would have climbed the learning curve of Logic Pro without this book.
And while it gets you started with Logic Pro, it is by no means 'introductory', but also covers a great deal of the more complex and obscure features of this great program.
